I had the opportunity to try out this STEM approved California Creation educational toy, GEOMATRIX. This innovative toy encourages children to be creative and allows open ended play for imagination. Starting with 3-D basic shapes that have stacking capabilities, each corner contains magnets so that the shapes can attach in every direction. As a math teacher myself, I found the 3-D shapes to be really educational and fun to play with! They make Geomatrix unique and allow endless ideas in terms of the creations that one can make.
The 3-D shapes really span the spectrum of ages, from enabling toddlers to develop fine motor skills, school age children to learn their shapes and patterns, and older children to make challenging creations using critical thinking skills. Geomatrix is an approved STEM toy, and has recently won an ASTRA (American Specialty Toy Retailing Association) Best Toys for Kids 2017 award in the Constructive Play Category. My 8-year old enjoys building and typically uses legos, but loved being an engineer with Geomatrix. My toddler really enjoyed stacking up the pieces and making her own creations, and my 5-year old and 7-year old took turns with my 8-year old in making their own creations and creating contests. These were fun for me to play with too as a parent and would be a great addition to the classroom as well.
The Geomatrix 15-piece set retails for $29.99. A new 27-piece set will make its debut in October, retailing for $49.99. The larger set contains an activity book of ideas to get started. This toy is one to definitely keep in mind for holiday shopping!
