Did you know that this Monday coming up, the Monday of the last full week in January, is known as Blue Monday? It is thought to be one of the most depressing days of the year, as credit card bills from the holidays start coming in, our regular routine is back after the holidays and New Years Resolutions are already starting to be forgotten. What do you think?  With over a month left STILL in winter, I could see it being a tough day.  

To stay motivated and keep positive, take your workout outdoors on Monday and any of your low days! Studies show that stress relief can happen faster in natural environments.  Getting outside also helps concentration and productivity, and releases endorphins to boost your mood.  If getting outside isn’t possible, hop on the treadmill or head to the gym. I also make it a goal to get the kids and myself outside for at least 15 minutes a day in this cold weather. It makes a huge difference for all of us!

  1. Well, besides a marathon this weekend, I try to be consistent in waking up and doing workout videos, even if I only have 30-40 minutes. I also take public transit so I get off early at stops and walk — of course, our weather here is pretty mild, so I imagine this would be tougher in more inclement weather.

  2. I stay motivated by doing bikram yoga – only complaint is that the walk/run back to the car is awful when your sopping wet. But I motivate myself to run by buying cute winter running outfits 🙂

  3. I run outdoors for as most of the winter as possible. I also take daily lunch walks, no matter how cold. It really helps me keep the winter blues at bay. I seriously cannot wait for summmmmer!!

  4. I still run outdoors… I just bundle up and then I feel warm after a mile or so of running. I am known to send my older son (3 year old) out on his own while I watch from the (warm) inside window. : )

  5. We try and get outside for a few minutes today also – it’s hard during this time of year when the days are so short! Really looking forward to spring!!

  7. Your kids are gorgeous & you take the best pictures of them! I’ve always thought of winter as the time to toughen up and get out there. I gues my motivation comes from feeling tough that I’m braving the cold.
