Whew! Recovering from the whirlwind of the holidays, and now the transition of back to school, just coming up for air today!
Yesterday, baby K turned 7 months old! and just the day before she started crawling. We are ready with a playpen set up around her. There are so many legos and small things around, which I didn’t have to deal with in the past, so I’m nervous! And I’m hoping that keeping her enclosed in a safe area will help keep her away from small things!
At 7 months old – Baby
K is a little mover. She can roll forwards and back, and to sitting. She is a strong sitter, and gets into all 4’s and now moves. For now, she is slow with just a little forward motion, but she is strong. Soon she’ll be all over the place and the gates will be up. She is interested in standing on her feet in the last week, and pulling herself up in the crib. We already lowered that when she started doing this!
With her brother and sisters – she loves them! 2 of 3 can pick her up and hold her and they are so good with her (for the most part, of course – wink). She is pretty chill, but definitely likes to have eye contact and be able to see me and be held.
Sleeping/eating. We started finger foods – peas, pears, banana, and those little things they can hold and suck fruit out of. I have not been great about getting into a rhythm like I did with the other kids with her solid foods. I need to be more systematic with it in the month to come. We have tofu to try, and a handful of other fruits and veggies. For sleeping, some nights is a step backwards. She has been waking up at 6am (AHH!) and going to bed at 6:30pm. Some nights she wakes up at 7:30 and we have to get her back to sleep! And 6:30 with other kids is right after dinner or the middle of dinner. 6am is when I prefer to work out too! During the day, she takes 2 or 3 naps. We are transitioning to the 2 naps. She nurses every 4 hours – but is losing interest if things are interesting around her. There were days this past month where it felt easy, she took solid naps, happy wake times, easy to feed… but most days aren’t solid, and with other kids around, I felt totally trapped by her needs.
Funny – to get her to sleep, I’ve done cry it out sometimes, but many times I end up rocking her with a blanket over her face! She is used to the Ergo from being out and about, and it was always dark in there. Ha! No more Ergo use here… she’s too heavy and I don’t need the back stress after what happened!
Overall, her personality is pretty low key and very happy! She is a great addition to our family 🙂
Whew. Like I said, it’s been a whirlwind. Couple that with waking up the Friday before Christmas hardly able to move, and then going for a run on Christmas and rolling my ankle, I’m just trying to hold it together!
I have been trying to stay active with pilates, barre and TRX – I bought a cheap one on Amazon. I can’t run, and most cardio is out, so I’m just trying to do SOMETHING, but it’s slowly killing me. Running and hard sweat sessions are my out and my therapy! My ankle isn’t getting better, so it’s going to be quite a bit longer of resting it. Ah!
I’m trying to soak up the baby days – the rocking, the sweet smiles, the firsts, while at the same time, I feel like I’m counting down to the year mark when I know for me, things get easier to manage. It’s bittersweet. I’m barely hanging on most of the days! I didn’t drink coffee until #3 came along, right? Then I stuck with one cup, every morning. Now it’s getting to be 2 cups every morning, and one morning I had 3 cups! I do make one decaf, one half and half along with the caffeine one, but still!
