What is golden milk?
Golden milk is another name for Turmeric Milk. Turmeric is a yellow spice typically used in Indian cooking. Why turmeric? Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric., This compound has been found to decrease inflammation and promote a healthy immune system. It is also able to cross the blood-brain barrier which makes it a helpful treatment in brain diseases. AND, it is the nutrient with the most evidence that supports its use in fighting cancer. When curcumin gets into cancer cells, it works to shrink the cells, and does not harm healthy cells. Most research has been done on the benefits of curcumin, not turmeric.
Are all turmeric powders the same?
No. You should look for a certified organic turmeric powder.
I like this one.
How can you incorporate turmeric into your diet? I love making turmeric milk. Keep in mind, for the best absorption, turmeric needs to be consumed with fat, so I use coconut oil as my fat. You could also use full fat coconut milk.
LIQUID GOLD TURMERIC MILK
1 cup almond milk (unsweetened) or full fat coconut milk
1 date or 1 tsp raw honey
1 Tbsp coconut oil
1/2 tsp organic turmeric powder
Bring almond milk to a boil in a pot, then add in turmeric powder, and simmer for 10 minutes. Add in coconut oil, and allow to cool a little bit. Once cooled, blend with the date or honey, and drink! The blending process makes it nice and foamy. Such a treat!
There are more intense ways to incorporate curcumin and turmeric into your diet if you are fighting cancer, but making this drink daily helps for a healthy immune system. As always, if you are pregnant, nursing, or have any sort of health issues, check with your health practitioner before incorporating turmeric into your diet.
